GOHK2UK

bowers.law UK-based immigration consultant, Antonia Grant summarises recent UK Government policy guidance to UK local authorities which will be of interest to BNO citizens relocating to the UK in need of financial assistance.

In a continued commitment to BNO citizens relocating to the UK, the UK Government recently issued policy guidance to UK local authorities highlighting the availability of public funds and English language support for those who experience difficulties in the UK.

This follows the announcement and changes to the UK Immigration Rules earlier in April this year when the UK Government pledged that BNO visa holders would be entitled to make an application to remove the ‘no access to public funds’ marker from their biometric residence permits in circumstances where they fall into financial difficulties amounting to destitution in the UK.  This means that in situations where a BNO visa holder finds themselves unable to secure accommodation or unable to meet their essential living needs, the UK Government will allow them to be assessed for public funds assistance and housing.

Funds will also be allocated to enabling BNO households to have access to English language tuition and support.

The UK Government has also published a useful detailed ‘Welcome Pack’ for BNO visa holders entering the UK.

If you are thinking of relocating to the UK and want to know more about the visa process, school placements, property or financial planning GOHK2UK is a dedicated service from a group of highly experienced and regulated professionals across the relevant industries in both Hong Kong and the UK.  We offer you a seamless service planning all aspects of your family’s move to the UK.
